Is Lions Club International a secret society?

  • NO, we are a public service club with more than 1.4 million members in over 200 countries.

 

Is Lions Club International a religious or political organisation? 

  • NO - neither! Lions Club International is a Non-Governmental Organization, with it's global HQ registered in Oak Brook (USA). However, every Lions Club in every country has its own division and set up. Lions Australia is a registered NGO in 31-33 Denison Street, Newcastle West, NSW 2302.

 

Is Lions Club International a business club?

  • NO, we are not a business driven club, we are a service club supporting the community by giving back. However, as we are part of the community as well, we do help and support each other within an acceptable framework and our social environment. We depreciate people joining Lions Club with the sole reason of doing business.

 

Being a member of Lions Club International only for the rich? 

  • NO, absolutely not. However, we do have a very small annual fee which varies from Club to Club as well as a one time registration fee (US$ 43) including a welcome package from the HQ. If you join as a couple / family, discounted rates apply for up to four (4) family members.

 

I heard, Lions is only something for retired people?

  • NO, absolutely not! Many of our members are in the workforce and between 30 and 60 years old. Of course, we have many members between 70 and 90 who are still as fit as 60 and still proudly serve the community! We are proud to have them in the team. They are our pillars and their know-how and network are gold.

 

Is everyone able to join Lions Club International?

  • YES! Men and Women regardless of colour, religion and belief system.

  • For Lions minimum age is 20 years old.

  • For LEO club, the minimum age is 12 years old.

  • The Youth Exchange Program is excited to be operating for youth aged 15 to 21 years of age to have the opportunity to experience cultural understanding among the people around the world.

 

Are there any commitments or expectations as Lions Member? 

  • NO, but you should be willing to invest your time once or twice a month for club activities as well as participate regularly at Lions Club Meetings. You only have to fulfil the Lions Code of Conduct. Simply said; be a good person, respect others, show manners and integrity, be mindful and live the spirit of goodwill.

How long does it take to become a member?

  • It depends on each club internal guidelines and of course of yourself. It is always a good idea to get to know each other during the club meeting, and there is no fee or cost for your first visit. If you like to attend a 2nd or 3rd time before making a final decision, you only pay for your own food and drinks (if applicable). From the time of your commitment it will take about 4 weeks.

Does Lions Club International anything for / with kids?

  • YES! Lions Club International has a Youth Program. Especially the international youth exchange program is very popular. We also have LEO Clubs, specially designed for kids, teenager or students. 

​

Does Lions Club International offer training or education?

  • YES - and it's all free! There is heaps of training available once you join the club officer path. However, as a volunteer of Lions Club International, the Australian government is covering the cost for Blue Cards, RSA and other certificates which are required when it comes to events or activities were we give a helping hand.
